Poppy joined Fleecehaven on 3rd November 2021, found alone, thin, and severely lame with a maggot-infested foot diagnosed as contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD). Quarantined and carefully treated with daily foot care, antibiotics, and nutrition, she gradually healed. Now stronger and settled, Poppy has become a spirited, cherished member of the Fleecehaven flock.
Description
Poppy joined the Fleecehaven flock on 3rd November 2021 after being found alone in a field, extremely thin and badly lame. Her foot was infested with maggots and damaged, and the vet suspected contagious ovine digital dermatitis (CODD). Efforts to trace her owner through her ear tag proved unsuccessful, and as a clear welfare case, she was welcomed to Fleecehaven.
Upon arrival, Poppy was thoroughly examined and CODD was confirmed. Highly infectious, she was quarantined in a stable until she was no longer a risk to other sheep. Given her arrival near Remembrance Sunday, she was named Poppy. Initially fearful, she soon began to settle, enjoying warmth under a heat lamp and the safety of her new surroundings.
Her recovery was slow and painstaking. Poppy’s foot required daily cleaning and dressing, with antibiotics and pain relief, while her nutrition was gradually rebuilt. Over time, her hoof regrew, and she gained strength, preparing for her eventual introduction to the rest of the flock.
