On the edge of Exmoor, Fleecehaven is currently home to in excess of 120 retired and rescued sheep. Each and every sheep rescued by Fleecehaven is provided with permanent sanctuary, with a guaranteed life of loving care and attention. Sheep arrive at Fleecehaven from across the UK, many having experienced significant neglect and remain at the sanctuary for the rest of their natural life.
Fleecehaven is a small, family run charity. The day-to-day running of Fleecehaven is carried out by Emma, with assistance from her Mum, Anne. Emma’s sister, Jayne undertakes the administration of the charity, including our Adopt-a-Sheep Scheme and attendance at Fundraising Events such as VegFestUK. The youngest member of the Fleecehaven team is Henry, who aspires to expand the sanctuary to include pigs and other farm animals when he grows up and takes over! Since February 2019, Fleecehaven has also received sustained voluntary fund-raising support from Michelle for whom, along with our many other supporters, we are forever grateful.
Fleecehaven relies entirely upon donations and monies received through fund-raising activities and our ‘Adopt-a-Sheep’ scheme. All money raised goes directly to support the rescued Fleecehaven flock; no salaries are paid. Our costs are considerable, mainly consisting of food, bedding and veterinary treatment.
With nearly thirty years experience of rescuing sheep, Fleecehaven has saved the lives of more than 300 sheep who would otherwise have died through illness, neglect or slaughter. Not every sheep or lamb that comes through our gates is a success story, but each and every one is given the very best chance of life, with some members of our flock living full and active lives into their twenties! The loss of each member of the Fleecehaven flock is heartbreaking as each and every life becomes part of our family, but we always take solace in knowing that they have experienced nothing but love since arriving in our care.
